Roles and efforts of youth and young people in Cambodia are critical to enhancing Cambodia's society. KYSD works to promote ways to engage them in becoming more actively involved in making positive contributions to their communities.

Youth reproductive health and population on August 12

KYSD and sixty other volunteer students from difference universities in Phnom Penh have conducted Pre-consultative session that related to the reproduction health of youth and message and Face book sending to inform about the world seven billion populations to mark the day of international youth, August, 12 in Kompong Chnang province.

The discussion consisted of five questions that given to five groups and each group contain about eleven people. And those questions were given to them to make a critical thinking about their health in reproduction.

The purpose of the discussion was to increase and awake the understanding of youth regarding the reproductive health rights whether or not they are ready to involve in this matter, said Chhoun Borith, director of KYSD.

He also said on behalf of KYSD that throughout the discussion, we would know the level of understanding of and comment youth in terms of reproductive health from them so that we could find a proper solution and suggest them to the UN meeting in September.


Sarey, 24, Pannasastra University of Cambodia, and a volunteer of KYSD said that he could gain a lot of knowledge for the discussion. He said he know about his health condition, he could make a rights decision to whether or not involving in sexual relation before marriage, and he would tell other people about this message he learnt from the discussion.

“I can spread this knowledge; it will help our society by enlarging youth understanding in this matter”, he said. Adding to point, Mr. Borith addressed that he would like to take opportunity of the Youth International day not only to raise awareness of youth reproductive health but also the world seven billion population so that youth themselves could prepare for its opportunities and challenges that would come.
